Acorn Biolabs, a pioneer in non-invasive stem cell collection, today announced a strategic partnership with Toronto-based Executive Health Centre, a medical wellness centre and leader in precision and personalized medicine. Under the agreement, Executive Health Centre will become the first clinic in North America to offer its patients the ability to have their stem cells banked through a method that involves simply plucking a few hair follicles from a person’s head.

Acorn's innovative method allows for full genome collection without the need for surgery or other painful and invasive procedures, making stem cell collection significantly more affordable and accessible for everyone.

“Our partnership with Acorn is tremendously exciting for the future of healthcare,” said Dr. Elaine Chin, founder of Executive Health Centre . “Stem cells play a critical role in predictive analytics and will allow us to identify and prevent diseases before they happen, in addition to creating the possibility for an array of personalized regenerative treatments in the future.”

Once stem cells are collected, Acorn uses a proprietary method of keeping cells viable during transport and storage, turning collected hair follicles into a highly valuable and accessible resource for regenerative medicine and genetics. Not only are these stem cells securely stored for future use, but the company’s scientists can also extract critical genetic information that will unlock valuable data about a person’s health that has never been available before. With this partnership, Executive Health Centre patients will also have access to Acorn’s genetic age reports that provide insights into a person’s aging process.

“Dr. Chin has been a trailblazer in using biometric and monitoring technology with her patients and has established herself as an eminent thought leader in this space. For Acorn to combine our technology with her clinic’s expertise is a major win not just for patients, but also for the broader industry as a whole.” says Dr. Drew Taylor, co-founder and CEO of Acorn. “Both Executive Health Centre and Acorn strongly believe that our cells are the future of healthcare, and we’re thrilled to be working together in making regenerative medicine accessible to more and more people.”

Toronto-based Acorn Biolabs Inc., which recently launched the world's first easy and affordable live-cell collection kits, announced today it's partnered with healthcare benefits consultancy The Leslie Group Limited to offer on-site cell collection to employees.

Cell collection is integral to enabling, advancing and providing stem cell therapy and regenerative medicines to patients around the world. Until now, collecting cells has typically meant expensive and painful trips to clinics for complex medical procedures such as bone marrow harvesting, liposuction or venous blood draws.

Seeing the potential for cell therapy to revolutionize the future of healthcare, Acorn has developed a non-invasive method of collecting cells that involves simply plucking a few hair follicles from a person's head. Acorn uses a proprietary method of keeping cells viable during transport and storage, turning collected hair follicles into a highly valuable and accessible resource for regenerative medicine and genetics.

Acorn's method allows for full genome collection, all without needing a physician or surgery, making live-cell collection significantly more affordable and accessible for everyone.

"Partnering with The Leslie Group was a natural fit given the organization's innovative approach to providing health benefits programs and their emphasis on wellness solutions," said Dr. Drew Taylor, Acorn's Co-Founder and CEO.

"Our teams agree that cell therapy will play a major role in the future of healthcare, and The Leslie Group's employees will now have the ability to tap into this revolutionary technology that will ultimately help people live longer and healthier lives."

The Leslie Group is the first health benefits consulting company in Canada to offer on-site live-cell collection to its employees, further positioning the firm as an industry leader in delivering leading-edge healthcare benefit solutions.

"A core philosophy at The Leslie Group is delivering an innovative approach to benefits for our clients -- one that is tailor-made for companies looking for a program that goes above and beyond the industry standard," said Shawn Leslie, The Leslie Group's President and CEO. "That's why we decided to partner with Acorn to enable our employees to have their cells collected and cryopreserved."

Leslie added: "Simply put, we want to practise what we preach, particularly when it comes to developing effective wellness strategies that will assist in improving employees' health over the long-term. That is exactly what Acorn is providing."

Building on the initial success of the on-site live-cell collection program at The Leslie Group's head office, Acorn is now offering The Acorn Partner Program to companies across Canada. Acorn's discounted cell collection fee is custom-built with HR budgets in mind, enabling them to bring the service to their employees at affordable rates that include collection, a cell viability report, cell image and a report outlining your genetic age.

The World's First Affordable At-home Live Cell Collection Kit Now Available, Readying Everyone for the Future of Cell Therapy & Genetics

In-person collection experience debuts at MaRS Health Innovation Week; pre-order now open for innovative live cell home collection kit in Canada.

Acorn Biolabs, a healthcare technology company focused on giving every human being the best chance to enjoy greater health as they age, has launched the world's first easy and affordable live cell collection, genetic analysis, and cryopreservation service through its non-invasive method of simply plucking a few hairs from your head.

With an introductory one-time collection fee of $299, Acorn will collect and cryopreserve your cells for future medical use. The one-time fee will include collection, a cell viability report, cell images, a report outlining your genetic age, as well as storage of your cells for your first year with Acorn. Annual cell storage fees as low as $99 for children under the age of 19 years old will be billed to clients who sign up for the service starting in their second year. Acorn is also making available a client referral program.

"Cell therapy is rapidly emerging as the future of healthcare," said Dr. Drew Taylor, Co-founder and CEO at Acorn Biolabs. "Your own cells are the key to leveraging its potential, increasingly unlocking preventative healthcare that can improve your healthspan. Medical advancements have allowed for doctors to use your own cells to predict, treat, and even eradicate disease and degenerative changes. Stem cell therapies, tissue engineering strategies, and regenerative medicine are all powered by using cells."

As cells age, they become increasingly damaged and less effective for use with cell therapy treatments. That's why consumers have already started to collect, preserve and store their cells as soon as possible — locking in their cells at their best. Unfortunately, existing methods of collecting live cells are highly invasive: from bone marrow extractions to liposuction surgery, and from venous blood draws to tissue harvesting. These procedures are painful and require medical teams, making live cell collection widely out of reach for most people.

To demonstrate how easy and accessible live cell collection can be, Acorn will debut its in-person live cell collection experience at a series of events across Canada this year including: MaRS Health Innovation Week, Total Health '19, Technology & The Future Of Healthcare 2019, Collision, BigData Toronto and Elevate, among others. At these events, consumers can personally experience Acorn's easy, non-invasive live cell collection service by having their own cells collected on-site.

Also starting today, Acorn has started taking pre-orders for its at-home live cell collection kit which is due to ship this year. The innovative kit design, supported by Acorn's non-invasive method, will allow consumers to collect their own live cells easily and non-invasively in the comfort of their homes by plucking their own hair follicles. Consumers can hold their place in line for the first run of kits by pre-ordering today at www.acorn.me.

Acorn demonstrated their unique capability today on stage at MaRS Health Innovation Week with a hair follicle collection demo where they plucked hairs of attendees in front of a live audience - safely collecting their cells for future medical use.

Today's popular saliva-based DNA home-collection kits are low cost cell collection alternatives, but only capture dead human cells, limiting their use. These DNA and ancestry tests currently focus on less than 1% of a full genome making it impossible to leverage those cells for anything other than ancestry and basic health reports.

Acorn's non-invasive method of plucking hair on your head allows for full genome collection, in addition to banking your live cells - all without traveling to a clinic or needing a physician or surgery, making live cell collection significantly more affordable and accessible for everyone.

Easily accessible, progressively more powerful. Your own cells are the next currency in healthcare.

Cryopreservation company, Acorn Biolabs closes $3.3M seed funding and ramps towards consumer launch.

The world's first non-invasive home-cell collection service will allow consumers to easily collect live cells for future therapeutic uses.

Acorn Biolabs, a biotechnology company focused on delivering an easy, affordable, non-invasive and trusted cell preservation service, today announced it has closed $3.3 million in seed funding from Real Ventures, Globalive Technology, Pool Global Partners and Epic Capital Management and other unnamed partners. Acorn's at-home collection kit will allow consumers to safely and effortlessly collect their own cells by plucking their hair follicles in the comfort of their homes and have them reliably transported for safe preservation and future use.

As people age, their cells deteriorate and experience irreversible damage. As a result, there is a dramatic decline in success rates of using older cells for medical therapies. "In our later years, when we need our cells for regenerative therapies, our cells are the least viable," said Dr. Drew Taylor, Co-Founder and CEO at Acorn Biolabs. "Rapid advancements in the therapeutic use of cells, including the ability to grow human tissue sections, cartilage, artificial skin and stem cells, are already being delivered. Entire heart, liver and kidneys are really just around the corner. The urgency around collecting, preserving and banking youthful cells for future use is real and freezing the clock on your cells will ensure you can leverage them later when you need them."

"Consumers have already begun to widely embrace the idea that you can collect your cells and use them to understand your ancestry and obtain basic health reports," said JS Cournoyer, Co-Founder and Partner, Real Ventures and Co-Founder, Element AI. "With advancements in cell therapies that leverage live cells, consumer understanding of the much larger value that their cells could have will also increase. And, as medical use of cells advances at a breakthrough pace beyond simple ancestry and health reporting, Acorn's service will become inextricably tied to how people think about their future personal healthcare."

Saliva-based mail-in kits leverage less than 1% of the full genome of any human cell – making their use limited to only a small subset of what could really revolutionize healthcare. Acorn's live cell collection solution delivers the opportunity for full 100% genome banking, giving consumers potential access to many more medical insights and therapies that leverage their own cells.

"Until now, any live cell collection solutions have been highly expensive, invasive and often painful, as well as being geographically limited to specialized clinics," said Anthony Lacavera, Founder and Chairman at Globalive. "Acorn is an industry-leading example of how technology can bring real innovation to enable future healthcare solutions that will have meaningful impact on people's wellbeing and longevity, while at the same time - make it easy, affordable and frictionless for everyone."

With this new round of funding, Acorn adds key resources to its team to ramp towards market availability. Jacquie Chapman, an experienced industry veteran joins Acorn as Chief Operating Officer bringing a wealth of experience across business transformation, globalization as well as business strategy from top tier management consulting, marketing and health companies including The Boston Consulting Group, LoyaltyOne and Precision Nutrition; and Sonya Verheyden joins Acorn as Chief Marketing Officer bringing an extensive background across consumer and enterprise technology, telecommunications and mobile through global marketing roles including Rogers Communications, BlackBerry, and Motorola.

The company is currently planning for commercial availability of the consumer home collection and cryopreservation service in Q2 2019. Sign-up for updates at www.acorn.me.
